Marhama Alvi, DMD

Cosmetic & Restorative Family Dentist

Dr. Marhama Alvi joined West Somerville Dental in 2008 with 6 prior years experience in private practice.  Dr. Alvi received her Doctor of Dental Medicine from the Boston University Dental School.

As a fourth generation dentist in her family, Dr. Alvi carries the dental tradition as she continuously strives to build upon the valuable skills passed down from the generations.  Dr. Alvi's extensive training in the use of advanced dental technology, including digital radiography and the use of intra-oral cameras, allow her to optimize her comprehensive dental treatment plans.

Dr. Alvi is an expert in Cosmetic and Restorative family dental, root canals, crowns, bridges, and implant restorations.  Dr. Alvi loves children's dentistry and her kind and gentle personality puts patients at ease. A member of the Massachusetts Dental Society and the American Dental Association, Dr. Alvi frequently donates her time to non-profit organizations and teaching good oral hygiene to underpriviledged children in the area. 

When she is not practicing dentistry, she spends her time with her family and sharpening her Ikebana (flower arranging) skills.

Sylvia Koo, DMD

Cosmetic & Restorative Family Dentist

Dr. Sylvia Koo graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology from UCLA before moving to the East Coast in 2004 to start her dental education.   Since graduating from Boston University School of Dental Medicine in 2008, she has worked at private practices in Lynn and Worcester.  Dr Koo is licensed to administer nitrous oxide, and her gentle, caring demeanor has a quite calming effect on any anxious patient.  Dr. Koo is very passionate and proficient with treating patients of all ages and dental needs -- extractions, crowns & bridges, root canals, and dentures, as well as composite restorations, and she is very excited to be part of the wonderful team at West Somerville Dental.  When Dr Koo is not practicing dentistry, she enjoys keeping her mind and body fit with exercises and outdoor activities.

Bassam El Jamous, DMD

Periodontics & Implant Dentist

Dr. El Jamous received his MSD in Oral Biology and CAGS in Periodontology from Boston University, as well as the Excellence in Periodontology Award. In 2007, he received his DMD from Boston University.

Dr. El-Jamous currently holds a faculty position as clinical assistant professor in the department of periodontology at Boston University.

As a Periodontist, Dr. El Jamous focuses his practice on dental implants, tooth extractions and bone grafting, osseous surgery, and guided tissue regeneration.

At West Somerville Dental, Dr. El Jamous works closely with general dentists and esthetic dentists to co-treatment plan full mouth reconstructions, overdentures, and dental implant restorations.  Dr. El Jamous takes a hands on approach with all his patients to ensure maximium quality of patient care.
